The Special Olympics world games committee partnered with us at the UNC journalism school to create this live event multimedia web site of the Shanghai World Summer games in 2007. We took about 20 students and 5 multimedia professionals to Shanghai and taught 200 Chinese journalism students about sports video production just in time to record every heat of every event at the games. I worked with the coaches to solve video production problems and lead the design efforts of the site. I wanted the photo and video content to take center stage. So I used a subtle grey pallate of colors that softly blend into the background, while anchoring the prominent content elements. No one slept for two weeks straight ... it was amazing.
Much of the same leadership team will gather again in Feb. 2009 to take another stab at covering the winter games in Idaho. |
