We traveled to a small island 300 miles off the western coast of Chile. Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish sailor from the 1700s, called this island home for 4 years after arguing with his captain and demanding to be put ashore. He was eventually rescued, but the story inspired Daniel Defoe to write the world famous work of fiction, "Robinson Crusoe," loosely based on Selkirk’s own account. Today the island hosts a small fishing village and about 400 year-round residents. This documentary project focuses on different aspects of Robinson Crusoe Island both fact and fiction, and examines life on the island today 300 years after Selkirk’s isolation there.
As the visual designer for this project, I was inspired by woodcuts in the original print of "Robinson Crusoe" with the goal of a creating an interactive cinematic storybook feel. |
